“Art is a medium of expression”

Imagine a world without music, art, dance, literature, poetry or theatre. It would be a dull world right? Art is a form of human expression it portrays emotion, it tells a story, it speaks for itself. It shows us the state of mind of the artist while making it. Now I am not talking about the art displayed in museums or the art that is sold to billionaires for millions. I am talking about art that speaks to common people. The painting you find in a small corner shop and find beautiful. The song that you heard which has now been stuck in your head for days. The story you read which deeply impacted you or the person you saw dancing on the street which you found entertaining.

That is the purpose of art. It entertains you not only as the viewer but also the artist. Art can be extremely therapeutic. It is proven that art helps artists cope with a lot of mental illnesses. Specially in a pandemic which has affected the mental health of so many people, art can be used as an escape from reality even for a short amount of time during which one really gets to express their emotions and clear their minds.

As I said before art tells a story. Everyday we encounter some form of art which conveys a social, economical, or political message. It conveys information, it creates awareness. Specially in a time where the world is so connected with the help of social media where millions of people can share their work, art in the form of visual or performing arts really educates people as it is more eye catching and entertaining than the traditional forms of print media.

Not only awareness, but the advancement of social media has helped to create new job opportunities in the field of art, now more so than ever people can make a living from art in the fields of design, performing arts, film etc

It is time we realize art is much more than paint on a canvas. It is a vital part of our society. It is an expression of the culmination of ones feelings, emotions, culture, ideologies, beliefs and virtues. There is a sense of freedom in making art as it can be interpreted differently, there is a sense of privacy behind the reason of making it and at the same time the satisfaction sharing the end result with the world. Art lets you say things which words can’t.
